BETWEEN DYING AND DEATH
2008 - 2014
Between Dying and Death is a series of mix media sculptures and installations that explore instances when the end of a human life is determined by others. Each scenario highlights different occasions when the decisions made in regard to an individual's life are beyond their own. In many instances, the value of that human life is not taken into consideration by those making the decision. Such occurrences tend to be related to legal policies, war tactics and social politics.
In these works the symbol emphasized is the butterfly. These delicate winged insects are meant to be a metaphor for the time span that exists between the instant the mind accepts its fate until the actual death of the individual. The goal of these violent and macabre sculptures is not to teach but rather incite empathy for those who are victimized.
